I recently got one of these little beauties and am absolutely bowled over with how brill it is. Although I got mine from somewhere else (only cos I wanted the pink one) it was here on Firebox I first saw them.
For speed and user friendliness you really can't beat it, the Linux OS is great (lets face it- anything that isn't Windows is great!) and it is so simple and easy to use.
I never leave home without it now :).

I have been using one of these little gems for about a year now and think it is the bee's knees. We use them in the Academy and they stand up just great! We use the Linux ones and see no reason to use Windows at all, the pupil ones we have left as standard with the eEEPC simple front end, I the one I have I have 'hacked' so it is running the standard Linux KDE desktop. I use it to set up and test the wireless points in the academy, write reports, go onto the internet, just about everything I would want to do on any PC.
At the price, how can you go wrong. Go for the 4GB though.

I payed £250 at pc world for mine so was gutted when I saw it at firebox for £220. I travel a lot and mates paid £900 for a Philips equivalent. I don't get on with Vista and just need Messenger and Skype when I'm abroad so I am over the moon with it. Also being so small I can carry more duty free on flights. Travelers just buy one and if you're not happy, blame me. But you wont.

Bang for buck, this shrunken notebook couldn't provide more; small, lightweight and durable, the functionality of a full system free to do whatever you wish to it - and all for only £220 !
The things you will notice are that it makes almost no sound, there's no conventional hard disk to stutter and groan because of the solid-state drive, the only time you hear anything besides music is if it gets very hot, the fan comes on and you stuff your ear right next to it. Very stealthy indeed. Stop reading now, hit "buy" and you'll never look back.

What a bit of kit, a real suprise just how good it is. I have an expandable memory and it runs Vista!! Who needs a PC. I even dunked it in the bath by mistake when it rolled off my chest during a soak and it still works. Cool.
Firebox says: This is awesome! However we do not advocate bath time fun with this product :) Ben James, Oxford - Apr '08 |
Truely amazing. The build quality is excellent, and it's a stunning machine! I can fit it in my combat trousers pocket, allowing confusion,
"I brought my laptop"
"Did you?"
*reveal*
*fanfare*
I look forward to taking advantage of free wireless services in cafés and such places.
Definitely worth the £220. From turn-on to using it is about 30 seconds, which is even faster than my phone!
I now know why it's called the "Eee", that's the noise everyone makes when they see it!
The Desktop is dead. Long live the micro laptops!

The best £220 I've ever spent. It looks like a kids laptop but it's anything but. You can load XP, Vista, another Linux OS and Amiga OS on it. Storage space is only 4GB, so hook up an external hard drive/DVD-RW drive to it or buy a 16/32GB SD card/USB drive. It boots up approximately 5 times quicker than my desktop PC and shuts down 3 times as quick.
Buy this while you can - it's the cheapest 7" laptop in the UK.

This is a serious bit of kit. Works straight out of the box, easy to use, and light enough to carry around (mine never leaves my side). Combine it with the USB Podcast Kit and you've got a great mobile recording studio!
Firebox says: Love your work, Gav! Gav, Glasgow - Jan '08 |
One real cool thing is that you can load Windows Xp on it and have a fully functioning Laptop, whilst I'm happy with XP, I have actually seen one running Vista, now thats cool !!!

I thought the hints that I was dropping to my partner for my Christmas present were falling on deaf ears so decided to order the white version for myself (I know...having to arrange your own present just awful!) After delivery from Firebox, my partner then produced the black version (ordered elsewhere so I wouldn't find out...sneaky) which was meant to be a surprise! Oh what to do.... Keep 'em both of course! So now we are both attached to our little ASUS'(!). I take mine everywhere 'cos it truly is portable. For what the average PC user needs this little baby has it all. Everything is where you expect it to be and it is so easy to use - straight from the box. Stop thinking about it and treat yourself.
